Although practitioners of the mystic arts are scarce within the often superstitious and religious lands of the West, many magi have made the pilgrimage from the Far East to see for themselves what horrors lie beneath the ruined cathedral of Khanduras. The veiled brotherhood of the Vizjerei, one of the eldest and most dominant mage-clans of the East, has sent many of its acolytes to observe the dark events unfolding in Khanduras first hand.
The Vizjerei, known for their brightly colored turinash -- or spirit-robes - have taken a keen interest in both gathering knowledge of demons and seeing them slain. The Vizjerei elders hope that their acolytes will learn the secrets of the dark evil that they sense growing in the West and can destroy it. The possibility of discovering long-lost tomes of magical knowledge within the confines of the labyrinth has also captured the interest of many wandering sorcerors.
The Sorcerer is, of course, the master of magic. He's especially adept at utilizing scrolls and spells. Right from the start, magic is his natural weapon; his special skill is the ability to recharge staffs, and as he gains experience, the Sorcerer learns spells much more quickly than his counterparts.
A glaring disadvantage to the Sorcerer's mystical offense is, unfortunately, his pitiful defense, especially at the very start of the game. Early in the game, the Sorcerer has to be concerned with this glaring burden. But the best defense, later in the game, is often a good offense: once the Sorcerer starts throwing those high-end spells, such as Stone Curse, Chain Lightning, Fireball, and the occasional dose of Elemental, all he has to worry about is keeping his mana reserves at a high to sustain his Mana Shield.
Although it is wise for a sorcerer to also invest in both the Strength and Vitality category, it is not wise to be overly concerned with these attributes, especially the Vitality category. Face it, a mage will never be as hardy as a warrior in the Hit Points departament. That is where the Mana Shield spell comes into play, especially late in the game. If the mage has been vigilant in increasing his Magic stats, then he would have no problems regarding his hit points, as his mana points will serve as his HP with the Mana Shield spell. Then, he would just have invest on Full Mana potions to save his neck deep in the bowels of hell.
SPECIAL SKILL: STAFF RECHARGE Using this skill replenishes staff charges, but reduces the staff's max charges. The higher the level of the sorcerer who uses this skill, the less a staff's max charges are likely to be reduced.
CHARACTER STATS ATTRIBUTES BASIC MAXIMUM STRENGTH 15 45 MAGIC 35 250 DEXTERITY 15 85 VITALITY 20 80
WHY PLAY THE SORCERER?
- The Sorcerer gets double the bonus for magical enhancements (but he also gets double negatives).
- At higher levels, the Sorcerer is almost indestructible, unless mobbed.
- The Sorcerer attacks fastest with the shield.
- For every level of Mana Shield, the damage a Sorcerer takes is considerably reduced.
