One of the major components of any playing experience within Diablo is the players' battles with the hideous denizens below Tristram.

Though there is a seemingly endless supply of monster variations in Diablo, it is heartening to know that there is indeed a finite number. In fact, many of the monsters are derivations of some general type. with added magical immunities, a distance attack perhaps, some special ability ... You get the idea.

Prima Publishing's Official Strategy Guide to Diablo made a very intuitive breakdown of these monsters, and I will adopt them in this section.

The monsters in Diablo are generally divided into three: the Undead, the Animals, and the Demons. Throughout this section, each creature will be discussed, including their subtypes, weaknesses, and their lethal capabilities. Added to this is a list of Uniques for each monster type, with their corresponding resistances. Diablo himself is included in the Demons section.

I took the liberty of dividing these monsters up into sections because of so many pages I see that just throw all the graphics in one page like a trashcan (and believe me, it takes forever to load them). Anyway, all the monsters in the game are in these sections.

But not all the monsters in the Diablo CD were included in the final version of the game. In the Secret Monsters section, you will see the six monsters that were removed from the retail version of Diablo, with their "possible" roles and strengths.

Also, since the recent release of Sierra's add-on to Diablo, Hellfire, the new monsters will also be included in the Hellfire Monsters section. More than a couple of these "new" monsters were taken from the Secret Monsters of the Diablo CD.

This is a vastly researched list, but please email me if you find anything in these sections that are either fraudulent, incomplete or inaccurate, and I will promptly update it.
