Tagalog Word of the Day: AMOY

Amoy literally means smell, or to perceive the scent of (something) by means of the olfactory nerves (commonly used as a noun or a verb, sometimes an adverb). 

Word Usage

Ang amoy ng kanyang kili-kili ay mahahalintulad sa bulok na langka. 
(The smell of his armpit can be likened to a rotten jackfruit.) 
or
(His armpit smells very fruity – in a bad way.)
or even
(The stench emanating from under his arms was a sign of how terrifying the force of nature can be when it has been corrupted by decadence.)

Naduwal si Isko nang maamoy niya ang hininga ni Maria.
(Isko threw up after he caught the smell of Maria’s breath.) 
or
(Isko’s lunch came rushing back as the scent of Maria’s wonderfully diabolical breath slammed into him like a freight train.) 
or even
(Isko did not know what fear and terror meant until Maria started talking.)

Masigasig na inamoy ni Mando ang sariwang samyo ng katawan ni Tekla habang nakahimlay ang dalaga sa kanyang silid-tulugan.
(Mando intensely smelled the fresh scent of Tekla’s sleeping body as she was resting inside her bedroom.) 
or
(Bestial urges were slowly overcoming Mando, as he excitedly took a whiff of the pure and untouched form of Tekla’s prostrate body that was invitingly spread out on her soft, warm bed.) 
or even
(Get ready, Tekla – here I come!)
